When

July 20, 2024. 8:15 p.m. - 9:15 p.m.

Ride with a ranger as we explore the shores of Smith Mountain Lake State Park on a beautiful summer evening. Experience an enjoyable ride on the lake while we watch the sun slip below the horizon, and later watch as the full moon rises and shimmers over the surface of the lake. Wildlife you might catch a glimpse of include deer, turtles, Osprey, Great Blue Heron, or even a Bald Eagle. We will make stops to take in the scenery and for photo opportunities.

PFDs (life vests) will be provided by the park and must be worn at all times. Water bottle and sunscreen are recommended. After sunset it can get chilly on the water, so you may want to bring a jacket. Unfortunately, we cannot take pets aboard the boat. You must be present 15 minutes before the tour start time in order to board and hear the safety talk.

Pre-registration is required at our Visitor Center since space is limited. Registration for this event opens one week prior to date of each tour and closes at 4 p.m. the day before each tour. We cannot take reservations earlier than one week prior to the date you plan to go on a tour. This event is free, but regular parking fees still apply. For more information, please call our Visitor Center at (540) 297-6066 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
