CSI: Creek Scene Investigation

Location of Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Virginia

Where

Smith Mountain Lake State Park, 1235 State Park Rd., Huddleston, VA 24104.
Meet at trail parking lot near Overnight Rd.

When

Aug. 3, 2024. 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Get your feet wet investigating the vast array of life in a stream. Catch crawdads, salamanders, frogs and such. Find out what small critters in the stream can tell you about the quality of the water. We'll supply the nets; you supply old shoes (for safety reasons, NO Flip-flops or bare feet allowed). As always, we'll be very gentle with the living things we catch, and will release them back into their environment after observing them. This program is conducted in accordance with Virginia Law; park staff possess the proper permits and training to collect and briefly handle wildlife.

Space is limited, so pre-registration is required at the Visitor Center. This program is FREE.
