Pinecone Fire Starters

Location of Bear Creek Lake State Park in Virginia

Where

Bear Creek Lake State Park, 22 Bear Creek Lake Rd., Cumberland, VA 23040.
Acorn Loop Shelter

When

Aug. 31, 2024. 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Make them this morning, use them tonight. This simple craft involves dipping pinecones on a string into melted wax. When cooled, the wax hardens, and you have a pinecone-shaped way to start your campfire. While we make the starters, a ranger will tell you about the mysteries and magnificence of pinecones. The fee is $2 per person or $6 for four participants. Please pay at the Park Office before coming to program and bring your receipt to the acorn shelter where we'll have the supplies ready. Young children should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Meet at the Acorn Loop Shelter.
