Gathering Acorns, Growing Forests

Location of Powhatan State Park in Virginia

Where

Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
Shelter 2

When

Oct. 5, 2024. 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Join a park ranger on a walk through the beautiful forest and contribute to our local James River Master Naturalist project! As we walk, we will collect acorns and other tree nuts that will be identified, sorted, and sent to the Virginia Department of Forestry. These seeds will be planted and sold as saplings at an affordable cost to Virginia landowners who are reforesting their land. Learn more about this yearly initiative on the DOF website

The guided walk will be 1-3 miles long, but those who chose to may cover a shorter distance on their own. Please bring water and wear sturdy comfortable shoes.
