The Park will offer a monthly Prowl the Powell a monthly nature series on the third Saturday of each month. Participants who are interested in the Prowl the Powell nature series should meet volunteers and park staff at the front gate of the museum. Dates will stay the same, but times are subject to change.
The October Prowl the Powell nature series will be “Tree ID (Leaf Peeping)”. Participants will join park rangers and volunteers on a walk to the historic 101 train-car, where they will have a spectacular view of beautiful downtown Big Stone Gap Virginia, and the gap in Stone Mountain where the town got its name. Participants will experience the splendor of fall color in the mountains while also learning about how to identify some of the more common trees in the area.
The Prowl the Powell monthly nature series will be held rain or shine. Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and comfortable walking shoes. Binoculars are encouraged but not required. Registration is not required for this program.
