The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park will offer a monthly "Birding in the Gap" on the second Saturday of each month. This series will be hosted by park rangers and volunteers.
Participants who are interested should meet at the front gate of the museum. We will walk around the museum grounds and along the beautiful greenbelt of the Powell River. Each month a different topic will be discussed; this month’s topic will be “Bird Organizations”. Spend your morning watching and learning about the world of birds on this easy and accessible walk. This month participants will learn about how many different organizations that are dedicated to the conservation and preservation of birds and their habitats. As the numbers of birds around the world continue to plummet, these organizations are now more important than ever. Participants will learn about the active groups in our area and how to get involved.
This monthly series will be held rain or shine. Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and comfortable walking shoes. Binoculars are encouraged but not required. Registration is not required. For more information about the "Birding in the Gap" monthly series, please contact the park.
