Find more adventure in the outdoors by geocaching. Follow maps on your phone to tiny "treasures" or caches in the park. Check it out HERE.

Silent Hike (10 a.m .- 4 p.m.) - Start the new year with quiet reflections along Ground Pine Path

There's always something more to learn about wildlife. You can I.D. plants and animals on the go by downloading the iNaturalist app.

There are so many trails to explore. Experience Pocahontas State Park and other state parks by downloading the Avenza app to your smart phone and using the maps to hike near and far this new year. For more information, click HERE.

Check out Oak Hill Picnic Area or Forest Exploration trail to identify native trees through QR codes on your smart phone.

Trail Tales (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) - Follow the pages of a storybook as you explore a trail. Begin at the visitor center to find out which trail will have the story and then begin your exploration and storytime at your own pace. The story is great for all ages. The trail will be less than a mile and stroller-friendly.

About First Day Hikes

Every year on Jan. 1, Virginia State Parks celebrates First Day Hikes. This nationwide initiative invites people to ring in the new year by connecting with nature and making lasting memories at a state park. Ranger-led and self-guided First Day Hikes are offered across the state, giving visitors of all ages and skill levels the chance to explore outdoors. January 1 is a Free Parking Day at all Virginia State Parks. (The admission fee at Natural Bridge still applies).
