When

Dec. 14, 2024. 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

In preparation for the Christmas Bird Count, come brush up on your avian identification skills with one of our Rangers! Widewater is a stopover point for songbirds, waterfowl, and other migratory birds during the Winter and Spring migrations, so you will be able to observe a variety of species here throughout the park. Starting at the Potomac Picnic area, you will walk along Holly Marsh Trail to Brent's Point Rd, then back again looking for our feathered friends.

Make sure to dress for the weather as this program will take place from either sunshine to a light drizzle/mist. Close-toed shoes and gloves are recommended, as well as water to stay hydrated. You are encouraged to bring your own binoculars and field ID materials if you have them, but there will be limited tools available for visitor use during the program.A flock of twelve large, white birds on the water.
