Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m., beginning Feb. 15 through April 30, per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Enjoy a ranger-led hike learning all about what's blooming and growing around you. This easy hike will take visitors through our park's deciduous woodlands along the river granting an opportunity to see some of the New River’s native wildflowers and trees in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet! Please wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather, and bring plenty of water and snacks.

The distance will be approximately two miles on flat terrain; the trail surface is crushed stone and a gentle grade. Leashed pets are welcome. This program is weather dependent. Please check our event listing on the New River Trail website for cancellations. Please meet at the shelter at the Austinville access trailhead, not 116 Orphanage Drive.
