Kids to Parks Day is a national day that encourages kids and families to explore parks and public lands.

Come out to Chestnut Creek, get your feet wet, and explore life underwater. Using the creek as a laboratory, we will search under rocks for aquatic life and discover how these critters can help us determine the health of the stream. Wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet and bring a change of clothes. This program is weather permitting, so check the website for any cancellations. Meet a ranger at Chestnut Creek along the Cliffview Campground.

After this program, a ranger will hold a FREE Campfire program from 6-7 p.m. along at the Cliffview Campground. Drop by the campfire to relax, meet your camping neighbors, enjoy time sharing stories, and learn about critters that call New River Trail State Park home. No need to be a camper to join; bring the family and enjoy an evening under the stars amongst the glow of a fire.

About National Kids to Parks Day

Virginia State Parks celebrates National Kids to Parks Day on the third Saturday in May by offering a variety of fun, family-friendly activities, from nature scavenger hunts and ranger-led hikes to fishing clinics and flora and fauna wagon rides. This annual event encourages kids to explore the outdoors while learning about wildlife and engaging in hands-on environmental education.
