Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m., beginning Feb. 15 through April 30, per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.
S'more Caching
Where
Bear Creek Lake State Park, 22 Bear Creek Lake Rd., Cumberland, VA 23040.
Legacy Wayside
When
Feb. 8, 2025. 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Join in this sweet-ending activity using global positioning system (GPS) technology. Use a GPS app on your mobile phone or borrow one of our hand-held units. Visit the Ranger Table at the Legacy Wayside (behind the playground) and get the first of three coordinates of three separate geocaches. In the first cache will be a ticket for one element in a s'more (a chocolate bar, a graham cracker cookie, or a marshmallow) and the coordinates of the second cache. Find the second cache to get another ingredients ticket and the coordinates of the third cache with the third ingredients ticket. Bring your three tickets back to the Ranger Table within the allotted time and get your s’mores kit.
A warm campfire will be available for those wanting to relax near the fire or to roast their marshmallows. Limited roasting sticks will be available; guests are encouraged to bring their own.
New to geocaching? We’ll give you some instruction with our units. Use of the units will be free of charge but will require submitting proof of identification and signing a loan-out sheet. Only one GPS unit per group will be available.
