Connect your family to nature with our special programming for Kids to Parks Day.

11 a.m. - Claytor Crafts: Pinecone Owls @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D
Join a ranger to create something special from natural elements found in the park.

2 p.m. - Guided Track Trails Hike @ Shady Ridge Trailhead (Near Shelter 2)
Go on an interactive ranger-led hike and use all your senses to learn something new about the park and our environment along the way. 

4 p.m. - Critters of Claytor Lake @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D
Ever wondered what critters are crawling around in our park? Join a ranger with some pelts and bones and learn all about our native animals.

7 p.m. - Reptiles! @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D
Sit around a campfire and learn about some of our scaly friends with the help of our reptilian volunteers. 

Self-guided Activities:

TRACK Trail Adventures - Find our track trail opportunities at the Shady Ridge Trailhead (near Shelter 2) and go on a fun an interactive hike for all ages! Don't forget to visit to track your hike when you're done for free prizes.

Virtual Tree ID Hike - Hike along the Howe House and learn about how to identify our native trees. Self-guided hike is found here.

About National Kids to Parks Day

Virginia State Parks celebrates National Kids to Parks Day on the third Saturday in May by offering a variety of fun, family-friendly activities, from nature scavenger hunts and ranger-led hikes to fishing clinics and flora and fauna wagon rides. This annual event encourages kids to explore the outdoors while learning about wildlife and engaging in hands-on environmental education.
