Beginner Kayak Lessons - Father's Day

June 15, 2025. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

This three-hour class will cover the basics of paddling skills including how to select and fit a personal flotation device (PFD), different types of kayaks, planning and safety, reading the river, identifying river hazards, and proper paddling strokes.

This course is led by an American Canoe Association certified kayak instructor and is designed for beginners and individuals wanting to be introduced to the sport of kayaking. Participants will be paddling on moving water; however, participants will not be paddling watercraft over any rapids or in eddies. We will paddle upstream to a calm section to go over kayak fundamentals.

All participants should bring snacks, plenty of water, sunscreen, and a change of clothing. Please wear comfortable (and moisture-wicking) clothes, no cotton, and closed-toe shoes that you don't mind getting wet/muddy. We will provide all kayaks, paddles, and PFDs. Space is limited to five participants, so please register early. The program fee is $15/person, and the age requirement is 10 years old and up.
