Come with us on a guided canoe tour of the beautiful lake at Fairy Stone State Park. Learn the history of the old iron-ore mining 'boomtown' of Fayerdale, which now lies below the surface of the lake, and the reason it is there now.
Cost: $15 per canoe rental or $5 to bring your own boat. Life jackets are required. Registration required and must be made in person at Fairy Stone Mercantile prior to event. Ages 4 and up. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
Most trips sell out, so those interested should visit the Fairy Stone Mercantile before the start time to see if slots are available. Mercantile closes at 6 p.m. Maximum participation: 12 boats (3-4 per canoe depending on size of individuals).

On June 15, 1936, Virginia became the first state to open an entire park system of six parks on the same day. To celebrate this significant anniversary, Virginia State Parks hosts History and Culture Day every year on June 15, providing a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the stories that make our parks special while enjoying the scenic beauty of its natural landscapes. From cultural demonstrations and reenactments to ranger-led kayaking tours and guided nature walks, History and Culture Day offers special programs for visitors of all ages.
