Have you ever seen a timberdoodle dance in the twilight sky? The American Woodcock, also known as the timberdoodle, is forest-dwelling bird that looks like it should live at the beach. In late winter to very early spring, if weather conditions are right, there is a chance of hearing the males' loud calls at dusk and seeing their amazing 300-foot “sky dance” mating spectacle. It's truly a wonderful spectacle to behold!

Be prepared for standing patiently in cold temperatures while we listen and watch. Minimal amounts of walking on flat ground may be involved, although a lot of the action can be seen from the parking lot.  Bring a chair and warm blanket if you'd like, as well as a headlamp with a red light setting to avoid disturbing wildlife.

Please register here so that we can contact you in the event of cancellation due to the weather.
