Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m., beginning Feb. 15 through April 30, per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Each month, volunteers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to work together on a project that helps improve and maintain our beautiful park. Projects vary each month and may include tasks like trail maintenance, park beautification, litter cleanup, or special restoration projects. This is a great opportunity to get outside, meet new people, and give back to the park you love.

No experience is necessary, and all tools and supplies are provided. Please bring work gloves and eye protection if you have them, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring water. Help us keep Douthat State Park a welcoming and wonderful place for everyone to enjoy! You can email Hannah.Johnson@dcr.virginia.gov with questions.
