Life, as we know it, depends on pollinators. More than 75 percent of the Earth's flowering plants depend on bees, butterflies, birds, bats, and other pollinators. Yet scientists have noted that these hardworking insects and other animals are in trouble. Learn more about pollinators, why they are important, and how we can help them.
New River Trail State Park has planted almost two acres of native wildflowers near our lower boat launch. The field was planted in the Fall of 2024; a wildflower field typically takes around 2-3 years to fully establish and reach its peak blooming potential. However, for the first bloom in the spring and summer of 2025, the wildflowers will begin to mature and spread.
Join us for a walking tour through the wildflower field to enjoy this natural beauty and identify different native flower species. Following the tour we will offer a hands on flower craft ranging from flower pressing, drying, or arranging. Make sure to dress for the weather and wear close-toed shoes. Photography is encouraged.
