First Weekend of Spring Hike

Location of Mason Neck State Park in Virginia

Where

Mason Neck State Park, 7301 High Point Rd., Lorton, VA 22079.
Bay View Trailhead

When

March 23, 2025. 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Come celebrate the return of spring with a scenic hike through Mason Neck! The beginning of spring is a perfect time to enjoy the warmer weather, see what plants are beginning to bloom, and search for wildlife as they become more active. Hiking with a ranger is a great way to learn more about the seasonal changes we see in Virginia, from animals waking from hibernation to flowers just beginning to emerge from the ground. Together we'll learn to identify flowers and other plants before they're fully blooming to better understand how plants change throughout their annual cycles. See the changing spring scenery as we walk through the park and discuss seasonal topics including migrating animals, perennial plant cycles, pollinators, and Virginia's temperate "Goldilocks climate". We're sure to see plenty of interesting flora and fauna also enjoying the warm weather!

Bay View Trail at Mason Neck State Park is a 1.06-mile natural surface trail that contains some uneven surfaces, stairs, and elevated walkways. If you would like to reserve and use the park's all-terrain wheelchair for this hike, please click here and follow the instructions. Reservations must be at least 48 hours in advance.
