Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m., beginning Feb. 15 through April 30, per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Garlic Mustard Pull: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Location of Sweet Run State Park in Virginia

Where

Sweet Run State Park, 11661 Harpers Ferry Road, Hillsboro, VA 20132.
Interpretive Center

When

March 29, 2025. 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Garlic Mustard gets a bad rap, and for good reason, but there are some benefits to this edible plant. We’ll start with a brief, family-friendly description of why we want to remove Garlic Mustard from the park and how to do so. Then we'll spread out along the trail and get to work. Younger families can stay closer to the Interpretive Center while more adventurous folks head farther down the trail. Volunteers can go home with a recipe card for garlic mustard pesto and a big handful of garlic mustard. Please dress for the weather and bring work gloves and water if possible (we’ll have extra available). This activity provides a simple and fun way to engage families, friends, neighbors, and co-workers in the benefits of volunteering in nature!
