Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m., beginning Feb. 15 through April 30, per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Earth Hour: Night Hike

Location of First Landing State Park in Virginia

Where

First Landing State Park, 2500 Shore Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
Trail Center

When

March 29, 2025. 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Everyday, billions of light sources illuminate our planets surface. For one hour each year, we choose to turn off the lights to help give the planet a chance to reset and recharge. In solidarity with this global event, we will turn the lights off in the Trail Center. In conjuncture with this annual event, join the Rangers on a night hike to learn about the park inhabitants that rely on the night sky for their survival. There are so many animals that come out at night, we may even come across some of them! The hike will cover about 0.5 miles of trail over the span of 1 hour. Dress warm and wear appropriate walking shoes.
