Join us for a geocaching adventure at Shenandoah River!
Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which you use a GPS or mobile device to find containers known as “caches” — basically treasure chests! First, we will go over proper geocaching etiquette, including respect for nature and fellow explorers, as well as following the “Leave No Trace” principle. Then, we will embark on a short hike to find a few geocaches in the park. Lastly, we will create our very own geocache, sign our names as the founders, and make some small crafts to leave inside for future adventurers! Once we find the perfect hiding spot, the cache's location and status will go live on the official Geocaching website and app!
This event is intended for families with children ages 7-13. The hike will be about 1 mile on moderate terrain.
Parks for everyone. Please let us know if you need special accommodations. For more information about this program, please email megan.goin@dcr.virginia.gov or call (540) 622-2262.
