What better way to spend time with your friends than fishing?

On National Kids to Parks Day, join a ranger and bring a friend to fish along the Shenandoah River. We will be using a spin cast fishing pole, and bait will be supplied. If you have your own equipment, you may bring it if the equipment is allowed under Virginia fishing laws. Fishing laws can be found here. This program is for ages 7-12. Adults wanting to fish with their children are required to have a Virginia freshwater fishing license. Licenses can be purchased here .

This program will meet at the River Bend Discovery Center, where we will discuss fishing basics. From there, we will take a 2-mile wagon ride to our favorite fishing spot. A parent or guardian must be present at all times.

About National Kids to Parks Day

Virginia State Parks celebrates National Kids to Parks Day on the third Saturday in May by offering a variety of fun, family-friendly activities, from nature scavenger hunts and ranger-led hikes to fishing clinics and flora and fauna wagon rides. This annual event encourages kids to explore the outdoors while learning about wildlife and engaging in hands-on environmental education.
