It's National Kids to Parks Day! Join a ranger to splash a hand line, cast or dip a net, and cast a fishing pole line in the water during our Fishing Sampler. This is a great intro to crabbing, bait fishing or going for the big catch the very popular way, using a fishing pole. We will begin at the Canoe and Kayak Launch parking lot with a kid friendly intro to casting the safe way with Backyard Bass then move to the pier to try your hand at different methods to catch the 'reel' thing. Fishing licenses required for kids over 16 years old and are available online. No license required for hand line crabbing. Space is limited, pre-registration recommended. About National Kids to Parks Day

Virginia State Parks celebrates National Kids to Parks Day on the third Saturday in May by offering a variety of fun, family-friendly activities, from nature scavenger hunts and ranger-led hikes to fishing clinics and flora and fauna wagon rides. This annual event encourages kids to explore the outdoors while learning about wildlife and engaging in hands-on environmental education.
