Shoreline Clean Up

Help us clean up our shoreline from the best vantage point - a canoe or a kayak!

Meet at Ware's Cove Picnic Area in the State Park to get a brief introduction to paddling before heading out on the water to help us clean up the shore. Boats, paddles, and lifejackets are provided. Bring your own water bottle and bagged lunch so we can eat while we float!

Please be sure to wear clothing appropriate for the weather and for being out in the sun - as well as likely getting wet. A hat is recommended, as is sunscreen. We will have a place on the shore you can leave anything you don't want to take on a boat.

It is important for you to wear closed-toed shoes. Crocs and open-toed sandals are not appropriate for this program. Water shoes or old sneakers that can get wet are acceptable.

This program is intended for guests 16 and up. Anyone under 18 needs to have an adult with them.

This program is highly weather dependent and we will reach out if it is canceled.

About Clean the Bay Day

Every June, Virginia State Parks participates in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Clean the Bay Day, an event dedicated to protecting and preserving the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Park visitors are invited to join a clean-up to help remove litter, debris and pollution from rivers, streams and shorelines that feed into the Bay, contributing to the health of the Bay’s ecosystem and ensuring cleaner water and safer habitats for wildlife.
