Waterfront Clean-Up

Come on out to Powhatan State Park for Clean the Bay Day and have the opportunity to participate in a waterfront clean-up to help remove harmful debris before it reaches the beautiful Chesapeake Bay!

Clean the Bay Day is an annual event organized where volunteers across the Chesapeake Bay watershed gather to remove litter and debris from rivers, streams, beaches, and parks, essentially acting as a large-scale cleanup effort to protect the health of the Bay ecosystem; it's considered a Virginia tradition!

What does the bay have to do with Powhatan? The James River is the largest tributary to the Chesapeake Bay. All the water running by the park ends up flows into the bay, and from there into the ocean.

About Clean the Bay Day

Every June, Virginia State Parks participates in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Clean the Bay Day, an event dedicated to protecting and preserving the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Park visitors are invited to join a clean-up to help remove litter, debris and pollution from rivers, streams and shorelines that feed into the Bay, contributing to the health of the Bay’s ecosystem and ensuring cleaner water and safer habitats for wildlife.
