In Virginia, a lot of pre-contact Indigenous history was obscured by colonization. Archaeology in Virginia faces challenges posed by sea level rise and land development. Accounts from colonists can only imply what Indigenous life was like before colonization. Indigenous cultures have persisted to the present day, to a time when archaeology embraces oral history in a pursuit to piece together the stories of the past. Join us to learn about these concepts during a gentle walk on Oyster Trail. Recommended for ages 16 and up.
