Come join our volunteer interpreter and herpetologist, Ana Sparks, to discover the secret world of vernal pools!
Session One: Puddle Detectives HQ
Date: Monday, March 17th
Unlock the science of vernal pools, a disappearing ecosystem that you can only see at certain times of the year. In this session, you will examine real salamander eggs, master frog call identification, and prepare for session two with your Vernal Pool Explorer Field Guide!
*Depending on the weather, this program may be held inside of the Visitor Center or outdoors.
Session Two: The Great Splash Quest
Date: Thursday, March 20th
Visit some real vernal pools and discover their secrets while learning to use field equipment. Spot amphibians in their natural habitat, document discoveries like real scientists in your field journal, and at the end you will have earned your Vernal Pool Hero title!
*Rain or shine, this program will take place unless there is inclement weather.
There are six spots available for this program and is suitable for ages 6-10 years. First come, first served! Clean rain shoes are required. Visitors should meet inside of the Visitor Center ~5 minutes prior to the program starting to check in.
