May 25, 2025. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Come experience the beautiful James River on this guided kayak tour with DCR's Bay Experience team! The trip includes a brief overview of paddling safety and techniques, as well as on-the-water interpretations of natural and cultural features. Conditions permitting, the tour will start at Launch A and end at Maidens Landing. Length of time on the water is dependent on the flow of the river. Plan to be on the water for 2-3 hours in a sit-on-top kayak.

It can be physically challenging to get in and out of the boats, especially for those with balance issues. Contact us at powhatan@dcr.virginia.gov if you have concerns, and we will try our best to accommodate you. Space is limited to 10 people.

Participant Expectations:
- Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and snacks.
- Plan to get wet. Bring a change of clothes and towel.
- Wear closed-toe shoes that you can step into the river with.
- Children must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by an adult.

Registration Required
- Visit or call the Park Office at (804) 598-7148 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily.
- $20 per participant; payment is required in order to make a reservation.
