Discover the exciting biodiversity of vernal pools! These ancient, temporary wetlands are home to fascinating creatures that have adapted to their unique cycle of wet and dry seasons. Join our volunteer herpetologist, Ana Sparks, for a hands-on, educational program where young scientists will:

            •Explore real vernal pools during peak activity season

            •Participate in actual scientific monitoring efforts

            •Observe salamanders, frogs, insects, and other specialized creatures

            •Learn core biology and ecology concepts through direct observation

            •Develop field science skills including observation, data collection, and identification.

This three-part series meets from 10:30am-12:00pm on the following dates: 

- April 14th: Salamanders and Newts

- April 16th: Frogs and Toads

- April 18th: Fairy Shrimp, Crayfish and other Invertebrates (Ages 6-14)

All equipment provided. Please wear closed-toed shoes, rain boots preferably. Don't forget to bring a water bottle and some snacks!
