Kayak Tour with the Bay Experience Team

Come experience the beautiful James River on this guided kayak tour with Virginia State Parks' Bay Experience team! The trip includes a brief overview of paddling safety and techniques, as well as on-the-water interpretations of natural and cultural features. Conditions permitting, the tour will start at Launch A and end at Maidens Landing. Length of time on the water is dependent on the flow of the river. Plan to be on the water for 2-3 hours in a sit-on-top kayak. Children must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to 10 people.

What to Expect:
- Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and snacks.
- Plan to get wet!
- Wear closed-toe shoes that you can step into the river with.

The steep decline of the boat ramp makes it physically challenging to get in and out of the boats, especially for those with balance or mobility issues. Physical aspects include walking on muddy surfaces and wet rocks, bending and squatting, lowering yourself into the kayak, and lifting yourself out.

Registration Required: Visit or call the Park Office at (804) 598-7148 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily. The cost is $20 per participant; payment is required in order to make a reservation. In the event that this program is cancelled due to weather, park staff will contact you to issue a full refund.
