"Echoes of the Past: Guardians of History" is a park ranger-led program dedicated to the preservation, interpretation, and celebration of history.
Explore the roots of Virginia’s agricultural legacy in this immersive program highlighting the cash crops that shaped the Commonwealth’s economy and culture during the 19th century. From tobacco’s golden leaf to the rise of cotton, grains, and livestock, each played a vital role in sustaining farms and fueling commerce. These staples influenced labor systems, land use, and daily life across plantations and smallholdings alike. Through hands-on displays and historical interpretation, guests will gain insight into the challenges and triumphs of farming in antebellum Virginia and the lasting impact of these crops on the region’s identity.
This program is free and open to the public, rain or shine. Web alerts will be posted online for scheduled program adjustments or unexpected cancellations. For more information, please call ahead at (804) 561-7510.
