Make a splash this Clean the Bay Day with a fun, hands-on creek adventure. Families will grab a seine net and wade into the water to catch fascinating macroinvertebrates—tiny critters like mayfly nymphs and crayfish that live in our streams. After collecting these creek creatures, we’ll work together to identify them and discover what they tell us about the health of our water. It’s a great way for kids and adults to explore nature, learn how scientists check water quality, and see firsthand why clean streams are so important for the Chesapeake Bay.
This program involves wading into a creek, which can be slippery and uneven. Participants should be prepared to get their feet wet and must wear closed-toe shoes for protection and stability. Please use caution when walking on slick rocks and follow all instructions from program leaders to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Parks are for everyone. If you have accessibility questions or concerns, please call 540-862-8114 or email Hannah.Johnson@dcr.virginia.gov.
