Ranger-Led Hike

April 25, 2026. 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

On this special edition of "Ranger-led Hikes", we will celebrate Earth Week as we hike through areas of the park that show signs of human impact. Along the way, we'll see how the choices we make have the power to leave lasting effects on the environment, in both positive and negative ways.

Please wear close-toed shoes and bring plenty of water and snacks. Trails vary from 2.5-4 miles through both open meadow and forest. Dress for the weather and be prepared to hike for 2-3 hours over uneven terrain.

Coyote Run Trail: 4 miles, mostly flat through primarily open meadows and a few patches of forest.
Turkey-River-Gold Dust Trails: 2.5 miles, partially flat with several moderate hills through primarily forest and some open meadow.
Cabin-Big Woods Trails: 4 miles, partially flat with a few moderate hills through primarily forest and some open meadow.
Big Woods-Pine Trails: 3 miles, mostly flat with a few gentle hills through primarily forest and some open meadow.

About Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, Virginia State Parks offers a range of special events and activities highlighting the importance of conservation and sustainability. Visitors are invited to participate in educational programs, guided nature walks, wildlife observation, tree plantings and service projects to help preserve the beauty and biodiversity of the state’s 44 parks.
