Where

Program Location: Shelter 1
Main Park Address: Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.

When

April 4, 2026. 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Join us in discovering the hidden wonders of these temporary seasonal wetlands. We'll find out what makes them so special, and why they are essential to the survival of many wildlife populations. The program involves a short walk through the woods to visit one of the park's pools, where park staff will use a dip net to scoop out debris. The participants will stand nearby at tables where they will search through the debris for a variety of tiny creatures.

We will be walking off-trail, so we recommend wearing closed-toed shoes, longs socks, and long pants to protect your feet and legs. To ensure minimal disturbance of this habitat, please note that participants are not allowed in the water and must stay within the defined program area. Park guests are not permitted to walk off-trail to see the vernal pools unless they are accompanied by park staff.

Registration Required: Register online to reserve your spot. We will contact you if the event is cancelled due to weather.
