Birding 101 Hike

Location of Douthat State Park in Virginia

Where

Program Location: Discovery Center
Main Park Address: Douthat State Park, 14239 Douthat State Park Rd., Millboro, VA 24460.

When

April 4, 2026. 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Who’s singing in the treetops this spring? Join park rangers for a guided spring birding hike and discover the sights and sounds of the season as migrating birds return to the park. Along the way, rangers will share birding tips and tricks, talk about the incredible journeys of migration, and introduce helpful apps that can make getting started in birding easier than ever.

Whether you’re a seasoned birder or a curious beginner, this hike is a great way to explore the park’s diverse habitats and spot some feathered friends along the way. No PhD in ornithology required—just bring your curiosity, a pair of binoculars if you have them, and your listening ears.

Meet at the Discovery Center. The hike will be approximately 1 mile on uneven terrain.

Parks are for everyone. If you have accessibility questions or concerns, please call 540-862-8114 or email Hannah.Johnson@dcr.virginia.gov.
