Help us celebrate Virginia State Parks 90th Birthday!

While Hayfields may not have been a state park 90 years ago, we are one of the newest parts of Virginia State Parks history. Join a park ranger for a 1.5 mile hike along Eagle's Rest Trail at Hayfields State Park. This is a moderate hike that will take you up to the Eagle's Rest observation point overlooking the Bullpasture River Valley and back down to the Bullpasture River. Participants will learn about the park, the natural world around them, and be able to take some beautiful mountain and river scenic pictures. Meet at the park office. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes. This is a rain or shine hike. Contact the park office (540-396-4489) for more details.

About Virginia State Parks History and Culture Day

On June 15, 1936, Virginia became the first state to open an entire park system of six parks on the same day. To celebrate this significant anniversary, Virginia State Parks hosts History and Culture Day every year on June 15, providing a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the stories that make our parks special while enjoying the scenic beauty of its natural landscapes.
