Fishing is Fun. Start your adventure near the playground to learn a few knots and casting techniques by playing our Backyard Bass game. Later in the day, we will put those skills to practice as we try our luck fishing along the shoreline off Bay View Trail. Check out the schedule below. Please note the different age groups. All kids should be supervised by adults; let's face it, adults like to play too. Pack a picnic and stay all day.
10 a.m. - 12 p.m. At the playground, we will have a table, and interpreters will teach basic knots and fish ID skills.
10 a.m. Backyard Bass fishing game, we will teach basic casting. This is for ages 5 to 8 years.
11 a.m. Backyard Bass fishing game, we will teach basic casting. This is for ages 8 years and older.
1 p.m. Meet interpreters along the shoreline off of Bay View Trail and try your hand at fishing along the shore. We will have signs on Bay View to turn off to get to the shoreline. Anyone over 16 must have a valid fishing license. We will have a few fishing poles and bait available to use.
About National Kids to Parks Day
Virginia State Parks celebrates National Kids to Parks Day on the third Saturday in May by offering a variety of fun, family-friendly activities, from nature scavenger hunts and ranger-led hikes to fishing clinics and flora and fauna wagon rides. This annual event encourages kids to explore the outdoors while learning about wildlife and engaging in hands-on environmental education.
