This is a “casting” call for miniatures enthusiasts and historic craft fans! Observe a ranger using permanent mold casting techniques to make tin soldiers, a centuries-old toymaking craft. The molds used during this program were discovered in the basement of the Walnut Valley house on the property and are believed to be about 75 years old.
Participants will learn about the basic metallurgical processes available to people in the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as a bit of history on toymaking and manufacturing.
Please note that this program will involve rangers handling materials heated up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, and guests will be asked to carefully follow safety instructions to avoid unnecessary risk.
