Come explore nature's amazing spring happenings through the Powhatan Library's new educational series: Nature Days! This special program is presented by the friendly volunteers at Family Learning Adventures in cooperation with Powhatan State Park. Folks of all ages will get a hands-on exploration with the wonders of the natural world, featuring several topics: trees, pollinators, rocks, and birds of prey.
Stop by the Powhatan Library on the first and third Wednesdays in April and May, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. No registration is required; just come explore the different books, games, and learning kits you can check out and take home, and stay for an activity or an educational presentation. Best suited for families with children ages 5 to 12.
April 1st: Trees Are the Answer
Live tree seedlings give-away to take home and plant. Tree activities presented by a Powhatan State Park ranger. Forestry educational hand-outs about Virginia trees. Tree slab and seeds exhibit.
April 15th: Pollination by Butterfly
Insect walk and vegetable seeds give-away to take home and plant. Live insects and caterpillars presented by a Powhatan State Park ranger. Educational discussion about butterflies.
May 6th: Virginia Rocks, Minerals, and Gems
Four rock stations to learn about the different qualities of rocks and minerals. Make a rock bracelet. Share your rock collection.
May 20th: Virginia Birds of Prey
Live birds of prey presented by Project AWARE Animal Rehab. Feather/claw exhibit, taxidermy birds.
