Join park staff and living historians for a weekend of special programs commemorating the 161st anniversary of the Battle of Sailor’s Creek, one of the final major engagements of the Civil War. Throughout the weekend, visitors can experience cannon firing demonstrations, guided battlefield hikes, living history encampments, and special lectures exploring the soldiers and events that shaped the battle and its legacy.
Programs will include opportunities to meet historical interpreters portraying officers and soldiers, hear period music, and learn about the final days of the Appomattox Campaign. Special presentations will also examine cavalry operations during the war and the role of notable figures present at Sailor’s Creek.
Whether you are new to Civil War history or a returning visitor to the park, this anniversary weekend offers a chance to explore the battlefield and reflect on the events that unfolded here in April 1865.
