Invasive Olive Cut Down

Where
Program Location: Archery Range
Main Park Address: Bear Creek Lake State Park, 22 Bear Creek Lake Rd., Cumberland, VA 23040.
When
April 22, 2026. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
This Virginia Volunteer Week and Earth Day Week activity will have us cutting down invasive Autumn Olive shrubs encroaching into the archery range and in the campgrounds. Why? Because these introduced plants have traits that help them out compete native plants and in doing so upset the balance of whatever habitat where they take to root.
We will be using loppers and clippers to cut them down. Bring your own cutting tools if you have them, and please bring your own work gloves, safety glasses, and shoes that cover the toes. Water and restrooms are not available at the range but are easily found a short distance into the park at the beach area.
