When
June 6, 2026. 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
What are invasive species and why should we care? In honor of National Trails Day, we will discover how to identify invasive plants as well as how they have the potential to use trails to spread and take action to help! Powhatan State Park has many precious habitats that will directly benefit from your hard work, such as bobwhite nesting sites and forest wildflower patches. The knowledge you gain from this educational talk and project will no doubt help you cultivate healthy habitats where you live and work as well.
Please dress for the weather and bring plenty of water. Sun protection and garden gloves are recommended. Long pants, long socks, bug spray, and close-toed shoes are highly recommended to deter ticks and prevent scratches. Children must be over 10 years of age and accompanied by a responsible adult. Meet at Picnic Shelter 1, where we will have a brief educational presentation before either walking or driving to the project site.
Please register to let us know you're coming. We will contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
