Twilight Owl Prowl

Where
Program Location: Shelter 3 (near Launch A)
Main Park Address: Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
When
May 22, 2026. 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Come take a walk with us to search for some of the park's most elusive night-time predators: owls! As we walk along under the quiet cover of darkness, we'll listen for their haunting voices as they cry out across the landscape. You'll practice identifying the unique calls of the different species found in the Virginia Piedmont and learn how their fascinating adaptations have made them a formidable night-time predator. Join the search! 'WHO' knows who we'll find?
What to expect:
The walk will be up to 1 mile on a forested, mostly flat out-and-back trail with frequent stops to listen for owl calls. You may bring a red flashlight or red headlamp with a red light setting to reduce disruption of nocturnal wildlife and preserve our own night vision. Alternatively, a ranger can provide you with red cellophane to cover your flashlight.
While registration is not required for this program, it is recommended. If you register, we will be able to contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
