Bushcraft Workshop: Honeysuckle Baskets

Basket weaving has been an important craft for thousands of years. Try your hand at this ancient process and learn about the history of weaving in the area, as well as how to harvest and weave Japanese honeysuckle (and other invasive plants). By the end of the program, you'll go home with your very own honeysuckle basket!

What to expect:
Seating will be provided at benches in the shady forested area of the interpretive campfire circle near River Bend Campground. There will be minimal walking or standing required. Seating and weaving materials will be provided. This program is ideal for adults and children 8 years old and up. 

While registration is not required for this program, it is recommended. If you register, we will be able to contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

To celebrate this significant anniversary, Virginia State Parks hosts History and Culture Day every year on June 15, providing a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the stories that make our parks special while enjoying the scenic beauty of its natural landscapes. From living history demonstrations  to ranger-led kayaking tours and guided nature walks, History and Culture Day offers special programs for visitors of all ages.
