In Virginia, a lot of pre-contact Indigenous history was obscured by colonization. Archaeology in Virginia faces challenges posed by sea level rise and land development. Accounts from colonists can only imply what Indigenous life was like before colonization. Indigenous cultures have persisted to the present day, to a time when archaeology embraces oral history in a pursuit to piece together the stories of the past. Join us to learn about these concepts during a gentle walk on Oyster Trail at our interpretive area. Recommended for ages 16 and up. Meet our rangers at the Oyster Midden to start the program.
Pre-registration helps us ensure enough supplies and notify you of changes or cancellation. Please register for the program by calling (804) 642-2419 or register online here: https://forms.gle/cAyDsb6UznW4DHqv6.

We strive to make our programming and special event opportunities accessible and inclusive to all. If you have any concerns, please reach out to our front office to speak with a ranger or contact us through the park email address. We will attempt to accommodate all individuals or families for their unique circumstances and can do so best with advanced communication.
