Kiptopeke State Park invites visitors ages 4+ to become a Junior Ranger.  By completing the Junior Ranger Booklet kids will take the Junior Ranger Pledge to preserve and protect our parks, and earn their Junior Ranger badge!

Ring in the New Year by joining the Friends of Kiptopeke State Park and a Park Ranger for the 2023 First Day Hike.  On this guided hike learn about the history of the park and the animals that call it home.  After the hike join Rangers for some hot chocolate.  The hike will be approximately 1 mile.  Please dress appropriately for the weather and terrain.  You never know what you may see, bring your binoculars and cameras. .

Kiptopeke State Park will be holding a Job Fair to recruit seasonal employees for the 2023 summer.  The Job Fair is scheduled for Friday March 10th 2023 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm.  Current employees will be on hand to talk about seasonal job opportunities, accept applications, and hold on-site interviews.  The park is looking to fill positions including Park Interpreter, Contact Ranger, Maintenance Ranger, Waterfront Attendant, Retail Attendant, Housekeeping Ranger, and Housekeeping Supervisor.  Seasonal employment lasts from the weekend before Memorial Day through Labor Day.  The Job Fair will take place at the Big Water Visitor Center located just outside the entrance of Kiptopeke State Park.

Join The Friends of Kiptopeke State Park for their 2023 Spring Meeting on April 5th.  The meeting will start at 5:30pm at the Big Water Visitor Center.  There will also be a guest speaker at this meeting; Richard Snyder of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.  Richard is a broadly trained ecologist and marine scientist.  He has published papers on a wide range of scientific topics including taxonomy and ecology of microorganisms, water quality, physical and biological oceanography, plant communities on barrier islands and in wetlands, fish ecology, and aquaculture.  Richard has a wealth of knowledge about our Bay and will be speaking on the rebuilding of the VIMS Eastern Shore Lab in Wachapreague, VIMS current projects, and plans for the future. His talk then will focus on some of the fish work being done at the lab, and common species found in the area, with life history information and some species range shifts we are seeing with warming coastal waters, together with the importance of collecting annual data for long-term ecological records.
