Virginia State Parks First Day Hikes Media Kit
Virginia State Parks encourages everyone to start the New Year with a visit to one of our 43 Virginia State Parks on January 1. Taking a hike to inspire those New Year resolutions centered on getting or keeping fit is the perfect family-friendly activity. First Day Hikes is an initiative of America's State Parks, and hikes are offered in state parks across the country. We have many hikes and opportunities to choose from, or you can visit a park of your choosing and create your own special First Day Hike. It's the perfect time to start your Trail Quest.
Please be safe on your adventure and enjoy free parking.
Both ranger-led and self-guided hikes are available. Learn more:

Ranger-led hikes: these hikes will be led by a park ranger and will have specific start times and meeting locations. Registration may be required so please read the description carefully.
Self-guided hikes: brochures will be available to guide you through various hiking options. Park staff can answer your questions about these hikes, but will not be joining you.
Virginia State Parks are managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
