Sky Meadows State Park Celebrates 40th Anniversary
A celebratory event will be held at the park, with a full day of activities and free admission.

DELAPLANE, VA – Celebrate 40 years of memories at your state park on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

Sky Meadows State Park opened as a Virginia State Park in August 1983. Since then, 40 years of your memories have become part of our history.

Sky Meadows State Park and the Friends of Sky Meadows invite the public to come celebrate what the park has meant to them for the last 40 years.

Park Manager Patrick McNamara said, “Long before I worked at Sky Meadows State Park, I was a visitor who made lasting memories here with my family. We hiked the A.T., slept in the campground and brought family members to show them the beauty of Virginia. I am excited to celebrate the anniversary of the park and grateful for the opportunity to steward this park into the future.”

For the celebration event, planned activities include live music, food trucks, local wine and beer vendors, a scavenger hunt, a historic Mount Bleak Open House, Blacksmith Forge demonstrations, wagon rides, nature programs and more family fun.

The headlining band for the celebration will be The Wilson Springs Hotel, a high-powered country and bluegrass-inspired band based out of Richmond, Virginia. Other musical performances will include American roots duo Herb & Hanson and the acoustic stylings of John Tole.

A photo collage of park memories is being planned for display, and those who would like to share memories are invited to bring their photos and stories.

The celebration on August 26 runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This will be a fee-free day with no parking or admission fees charged to attend. To learn more about the Sky Meadows 40th Anniversary Celebration, please go to https://vasp.fun/SK40years.
