National Public Lands Day is Sept. 23 and Kiptopeke State Park is celebrating by hosting Outdoor Exploration Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
National Public Lands Day celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits. This day is very special as millions of people, all over the world, get outdoors to volunteer or attend an event to celebrate their appreciation for these precious spaces.
Outdoor Exploration Day is committed to providing opportunities for visitors to experience and learn about Virginia’s Eastern Shore and the Chesapeake Bay. Through education, hands-on demonstrations and outdoor recreation, visitors will further their appreciation of these resources.
“Come celebrate National Public Lands Day and the great Eastern Shore at our annual event,” said Kiptopeke State Park Assistant Manager Stephanie Venarchick. “We are excited to highlight this park and its unique nature and natural beauty and share details about the Eastern Shore with guests.”
This event is free, family friendly and will feature wildlife exhibits, native plants and seeds and a litter prevention campaign. Other activities include educational games, arts & crafts, wagon rides and a dugout canoe demo. Guests will also have the opportunity to tour a Coast Guard response boat.
“Outdoor Exploration Day showcases the wildlife we observe at the park and their natural habitats,” said Kiptopeke State Park Manager Sean Dixon. “This is one of the best places for birdwatching, especially this time of year. It’s fun to watch all the birds that gather on our concrete fleet of ships too. Our park is truly a hidden gem in Virginia.”
Visit the Kiptopeke State Park web page for more details about this event and upcoming events.
