SURRY, Va. – Chippokes State Park, in partnership with the local 7th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line, will host a special two-day event the first weekend in June that will include live Revolutionary War reenactments.
The Revolution South of the James will be held on June 1 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and June 2 from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. There will be three tactical reenactments and demonstrations with battles on each day that showcase the camp life of both British and American Armies. Two battles will take place on Saturday and one on Sunday.
“This event will highlight the park’s historical resources while giving the guests a glimpse of life in the past,” said Chippokes State Park Chief Ranger of Visitor Experience Shannon Carlin. “There will also be hearth cooking demonstrations on Saturday so guests can experience how meal prep was done before the aid of modern technologies.”
Food vendors will be on-site.
The Farm and Forestry Museum will be open for self-guided tours and there will be historical tours of the Jones-Stewart Mansion. The Jones-Stewart Brick Kitchen will be open with live hearth cooking demonstrations on Saturday and interpretation on Sunday.
The event is free, but the parking fee does apply. This event will take place rain or shine, but please note that some demonstrations may not take place in the rain.
For more information about these activities, visit the park’s event website.
